So this week, I tried someone new to me. A new to me Aussie author I stumbled across a few weeks ago on amazon, and I'm really glad I did. This writer has been an unexpected treat and I'm glad to introduce you all to
BEDAZZLED by Mary Campagnolo
This book is completely unexpected... The story begins as all do, setting things up, plodding along nicely, nothing special, easy to read and even the sad bits are able to be seen a mile away and so by the time you get there, they're not all that sad after all.
And then in the middle of Chapter 19 BAM!!! The heart of the book hits you in the chest and knocks you on you ass so hard that you spend the rest of the pages wiping tears from your eyes. Tears of sadness, tears of joy, tears simple brought about by the precociousness and absolute delight of a world see by small children.
While the first half of the book is nice and simple, the 2nd half is so full of charm you just can't help but fall in love with it. It almost makes you want to jump in the car and head down the Mornington Peninsula to spend an hour or two rifling through a crystal shop. It all comes together in the the but the heart and soul doesn't quite flow throughout which is a complete shame. Still a good read though, so cast your eyes and let me know what you think - remember just because I find something in a book doesn't mean you won't find something else. That's what's so wonderful about reading isn't it?
